Mike Burke began his professional soccer career in 1998 with the Jacksonville Cyclones and Charleston Battery before being drafted by D.C. United in 2000. He joined the Richmond Kickers Pro team in 2001 and spent the next 12 seasons as one of the club’s most influential players. Over more than 260 appearances, Burke scored 36 goals, recorded a franchise-record 61 assists, and became a six-time Supporters’ Choice MVP (2005–2009). He was also named the USL League MVP in 2007. His early career included Rookie of the Year honors with the Jacksonville Cyclones and selection to the 28-man roster competing for a spot on the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team, along with international training experience at Nottingham Forest (England) and Deportivo Cali (Colombia).
Burke has been a central figure in the Richmond Kickers Youth Club since 2000 and has served as a Full-Time Director since 2010. With more than 25 years of coaching experience, he has worked with boys and girls at every age and development stage, giving him a comprehensive understanding of player growth and the Richmond youth soccer landscape. He holds a U.S. Soccer “B” License, La Liga and FA Child Psychology certifications, and an AFC Ajax Youth Coaching certificate.
Known for fostering a positive, inclusive, and development-focused environment, Burke has played an essential role in preparing players for Richmond United and beyond. He currently oversees the U13–U14 boys’ and girls’ programs and serves as a key member of the senior management team for the Richmond Kickers Youth Club.
