KEVIN SAUER-ROWING RECRUITER

Kevin Sauer is one of the most respected names in collegiate rowing. Over a career spanning more than five decades, he has shaped the lives of student-athletes at every level of the sport—from club programs to NCAA champions and Olympians.

As the longtime Head Coach of the University of Virginia Women’s Rowing program, Sauer built one of the most successful dynasties in collegiate athletics. Under his leadership, Virginia captured 2 NCAA Team Championships, 9 NCAA Boat Titles, and 22 ACC Team Championships, consistently ranking among the nation’s elite.

Before arriving in Charlottesville, Sauer coached at Purdue University and Yale University, guiding crews to historic wins—including Purdue’s Varsity 8 victories over Wisconsin in 1981 and 1982—and mentoring generations of rowers who would go on to national and international success.

On the world stage, Sauer’s impact has been equally profound. He has coached U.S. U23 National Teams to multiple podium finishes, including gold medals in the Women’s 4x (2007) and Women’s 8+ (2008, 2022), while mentoring 19 Olympians from the University of Virginia.

Renowned for his technical mastery, leadership, and ability to connect deeply with athletes, Kevin embodies the JB+C standard: elite guidance, genuine mentorship, and a lifelong commitment to helping young people achieve their full potential—in sport and beyond.
