PETER SHERRY-TRACK & FIELD RECRUITER

Peter Sherry is dedicated to helping high school track and field athletes gain meaningful exposure and find the right collegiate fit for their athletic and academic goals. A former elite distance runner, collegiate All-American, and longtime high school and youth coach, Peter brings decades of firsthand experience navigating every level of the sport—from unrecruited walk-on to international competitor.

Peter’s journey began in 1986 when he arrived at Georgetown University as an unrecruited athlete. Through persistence and performance, he earned a scholarship and was named team captain for his final two seasons. During his collegiate career, he became a multiple-time Big East Champion, a 5 x All-American in track and cross country, a former school record holder and the 1991 NCAA runner-up at 5,000m. He earned a silver medal at the 1991 World University Games in England and was later inducted into the Georgetown Athletic Hall of Fame.

After college, Peter competed professionally for Adidas then as part of The Reebok Enclave Track Club. A 3 x U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier at 5,000m,10,000m and the marathon, he has represented the U.S. at multiple international competitions, twice at the World University Games, the Track World Cup in Cuba, and the World Cross Country Championships in Portugal. In 2003, he was the Marine Corps Marathon Champion.

Peter has spent more than two decades developing athletes at the youth and high school levels. He served as head track and field coach at McLean and Herndon High Schools for 15 years and is currently in his 13th season as a coach in the Langley H.S. softball program. In addition, he coached his 3 daughters through Little League and travel softball with the Great Falls Sharks for over 10 years.

Since 2011, Peter has owned and operated a sports massage therapy clinic in Reston, VA, specializing in deep tissue massage, flexibility, and injury prevention and rehab. As a practitioner of Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) he believes in combining AIS with massage in promoting athletic performance. He currently works with numerous high school and college athletes as well as multiple collegiate teams across a variety of sports.

Peter’s recruiting philosophy is simple: the right fit matters more than the name on the front of the jersey. He firmly believes there is a collegiate opportunity for nearly every varsity-level athlete when the process is approached strategically and honestly. Leveraging decades of relationships within the close-knit track and field community, including former competitors, teammates, and training partners now coaching at the college level, Peter helps families navigate the rapidly changing recruiting landscape with clarity and confidence.

Peter lives in Great Falls, Virginia, with his wife, Faith, and their Australian Shepherd, Willow.
